Pour enough water (30 seconds off the boil) to saturate the grounds, and let it sit for 30 seconds. Stick a filter inside the top part of the Chemex and fill it with ground coffee. It may look unusual, but it's pretty easy to brew coffee with it: So he came up with the hour-glass shaped Chemex. D in chemistry, wanted to create the most "chemically correct" coffee maker. Some official solutions also shows placed unused pieces. If you want to make the most scientifically "correct" coffee, then you need this glass contraption. Tons of puzzles have extra pieces compared to official solution. To add, gorilla nest, one of the older developers of CM, actively recommends against sandbox type puzzles.ĭevs have even invited reporting potential exploits: It's still possible to find alternative solutions, but are less common. I have noticed this with the older TIM games, but the newer ones (such as Even More Contraptions), the puzzles are just as hard with reduced part counts. What you want is just a monotone and repetitive game that restrict you way too much.Īs far as I can tell, they don't intentionally give you more pieces than necessary in CM, unless it's to mislead you or something. The whole point of this kind of game is to find a different solution each time, trying to reduce the number of piece. Why you should need a single and only solution?

But you are free to reach the goal the way you want. What puzzles deserve tweaks, it's hard to say. It is amusing when you do find an alternate solution, don't get me wrong, but solving the way the designer intended could be just as amusing and teach you something you didn't consider. For puzzles I design beyond the official ones, I tend to be influenced by what the puzzle shouldn't do. I just have this aversion to alternate solutions because playing through some TIM puzzles, especially in Even More Contraptions, I ended up solving the puzzle by taking advantage of part properties that weren't intended. I am no stranger to alternate solutions in the TIM series. The puzzle idea won't change, just some part arrangements and maybe a few additional locked parts. You are surely new to these kind of game if you want only a single way to solve it haha If you have only a single way to do a puzzle, better just let the game tell you exactly how because if you do it differently, then you would meet the goal but nothing will let you "win". If the game force a very specific way to do a puzzle, then if you find an easier way to do it, yet you meet the goal it won't trigger a puzzle solved? They gives you tool, you get to make the goal to happen. If it is easier, likely needs to be rethought or patched up.

Generally, if the creative solution is harder than the intended way, it might be allowable. Like I said, it's a hard call to allow more creative solutions. If I do add an additional goal, I will be sure to explicitly state it.

I wouldn't be so cruel to patch a puzzle like that. There's games like that with achievements when you use x less pieces than official solution. It's always fuin to have alternative, add replayability to solve specific puzzles with less and less pieces each time. You do something that meet the goal yet it doesn,t work? Make no sense. It's tricky to decide if you should allow the alternate solution stand or patch it so that way it isn't possible. My puzzles, I try to have the player discover the intended solution more often than allowing them to try to brute force their own solutions, because I want to show the player what you could do with parts and how interesting the chain reactions could be.

If the alternate solution is easier to discover than the intended way, then the puzzle might need to be tweaked.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย wildgoosespeeder:I find alternate solutions OK in cases where the puzzle is designed to be easy/medium, but for harder puzzles, alternate solutions could result in skipping potentially brilliant logical steps and interesting design how to use parts in a more intruiging way.
